The Goshen College Chamber Choir is an auditioned group of 24-45 students performing secular and sacred music from the Medieval through Modern periods. The group is open to all majors and grade levels. In addition to performing with area and regional orchestras, the Chamber Choir performs numerous solo concerts both on and off campus during the school year.
The goals of the Goshen College Women’s World Music Choir are to discover and perform spiritual music of many cultures, both national and international, particularly indigenous cultures. The choir highlights the role of women in these cultures, celebrating the unique spirit, faith and energy that women bring to the world as creators and sustainers of life and art.
The Goshen College Men’s Chorus, founded in January of 2004, follows in the long tradition of GC male singing groups beginning with the men’s glee clubs and the Rambler Quartet of the early 1900s. Formed by the combined male voices of the Chorale and Chamber Choir, the Men’s Chorus performs music from all genres and time periods with special emphasis on sacred a cappella literature. The men perform in on-campus choral concerts and represent the college on periodic tours.
The Goshen College Symphony Orchestra is a group that varies in size and repertoire from that of chamber orchestra to full philharmonic dimensions. Formed in the 1950s, it has actively performed standard symphonic repertoire ever since. The group presents concerts of major orchestral works each semester. In addition, it accompanies the choirs, operas and student winners of the Concerto-Aria Competition.
Lavender Jazz is Goshen College’s big band. The group plays classic jazz standards and styles, such as swing, blues, world beat, be-bop, hard bop, New Orleans/Dixieland, and fusion. Lavender Jazz performs two concerts in Sauder Concert Hall each academic year, and other performances in a variety of settings both on and off-campus. The ensemble varies in size from year to year and is open to by audition to any Goshen College student regardless of major.
In fall 2014, Goshen College introduced a new all-campus band that provides a fresh musical outlet for Goshen College students. The band, which is an inclusive, non-auditioned ensemble, performs in concert as well as serving as a pep band for select athletic and other campus events.
The Voices N Harmony choir includes Goshen College students, faculty, staff, and community members of diverse ages and cultural backgrounds who sing to proclaim the power of God’s love. Voices N Harmony is an associate choir of the Goshen College Music Department. It is coordinated by DaVonne Kramer, Coordinator of Retention and Intercultural Students. VNH is directed by Lwan Easton with the help of Darius Garner.
