New Majors beginning Fall 2008
Three of the most popular concentrations in the Communication department will be offered as majors—Broadcasting, Journalism and Public Relations—beginning in the fall semester 2008. Throughout this spring, we will be updating specific web pages with the details of the new majors. Studio To study communication at Goshen College is to develop your talents from day one. Whether you want to become a reporter or public relations practitioner, a graphic designer or broadcaster, the college offers opportunities to be educated culturally and trained professionally.

Off-campus internships and work-study
Off-campus internships are also required as part of the course of study. Students have worked at The Arizona Republic, "Nightline," "A Prairie Home Companion," The South Bend Tribune, South Dakota Magazine, WNIT-TV and other media outlets in recent years.

Stein Scholarships
The department recognizes outstanding students by awarding more than $50,000 in scholarships every year. In 2002, the department introduced the Gorsline Excellence Awards, inviting talented high school seniors to compete for $4,000 scholarships in journalism, theater, and video/film/audio.

Broadcasting (Radio and Television)
Students are given the opportunity to develop expertise in production, programming, news, sales, and management. A broad education is combined with practical experience as students prepare for careers in television and radio, independent production and corporate media. An internship and portfolio are required. Film Studies
A blend of video production and film criticism are offered in this concentration. Students must spend one semester at the LA Film Studies Center or an approved alternative off-campus program. An internship and portfolio are required. Click here for course details.

Public Relations
In preparing to work both as advisers and as technicians, students should have a strong knowledge base and varied communication skills. Toward that end, core liberal arts courses are combined with selections from a specialized menu. The foundational skills remain an ability to write and speak effectively, to think critically and to research skillfully. An internship and portfolio are required. Click here for course details.

Journalism
Our program is committed to teaching students how to present news and information across media lines. Journalism is increasingly a multimedia career, with stories being told in print, as audio or video, and online. The foundational skills remain as always an ability to write clearly and accurately, to think critically and to research skillfully. An internship and portfolio are required. Multimedia Communication
This concentration is for students who want to use film, video, computers and other electronic media in varied contexts. Multimedia studies can be pursued as a communication concentration or as a minor offered jointly with the Art, Computer Science and Business Information Systems Departments.
