Reception: Sunday, November 10 — 2-4 pm, Hershberger Art Gallery Exhibit Description: Jason Lahr’s paintings and works on paper combine darkly comic texts with appropriated images to create shifting narratives of working class male identity as shaped by popular culture. The images are pulled from a wide range of popular and sub-cultural ephemera while the texts that he writes are fragments that suggest their excision from a larger story, and give the reader/viewer flashbulb glimpses at moments of narrative action.…

November 28 – February 19 The Goshen College Art Club & Art Department brings you a special thematic Student Art Exhibit. This year’s theme is “Recycled” and all student-submitted pieces must represent this theme in some form. The guidelines entrants had to follow were: Each work must be original in concept and execution and created this year. All media except digital productions were acceptable. Entries must not exceed five feet.

Scott Dooley: Spring 2014 Kenagy Visiting Artist

Scott Dooley will be the Eric Yake Kenagy Visiting Artist for 2013-14. Goshen College is grateful for the opportunity to bring him to campus made possible by funding from the Kenagy Endowment. The beginning point for Scott Dooley’s clay vessels are metal artifacts from the rural Mid-west landscape he grew up in. Mennonite Identity in Mugs, Plates, and T-Shirts

This exhibit documents Mennonites’ recent use of commercially produced objects to project cultural and religious identity in private and public contexts. It includes plates from Makkum Pottery, a Dutch company owned by the Mennonite family Tichelaar since 1676.
