At Goshen College, starting as an undecided student means you’ll be supported as you explore your interests, values, and goals. Our advising process is built to help you discover your strengths and passions while you complete core curriculum courses that keep you on track for graduation.
Choosing to be undecided doesn’t mean falling behind. Instead, it means being intentional about finding a path that’s right for you.
Starting college without a major gives you the time and support to choose a career path that fits you. GC’s Career Services team will work with you to explore potential careers, connect you with mentors, and help you gain experience through internships and campus leadership.
Undecided students at Goshen College work closely with academic advisors to choose general education courses that fulfill requirements while exploring various fields. Most students choose a major by the end of their first year. As an undecided student, you’ll begin with the Goshen Core—our general education curriculum designed to expose you to a variety of disciplines. Courses in the arts, humanities, social sciences, and natural sciences provide a strong foundation for your college education while helping you discover your academic interests.
You’ll have the opportunity to engage in hands-on learning experiences—regardless of your major. Global engagement programs, internships, job shadowing, service projects, and campus involvement can all help you explore what excites you and guide you toward a meaningful academic path.
All first-year and transfer students are automatically considered for merit-based scholarships, and additional aid is available based on need, background, or area of interest once you declare a major.
From the Good Library and computer labs to studios, labs, and rehearsal spaces, you’ll have access to the same academic resources as declared majors—so you can explore with confidence and support.
