Why Study Pre-Veterinary at Goshen College?

If you have a passion for animals and dream of becoming a veterinarian, Goshen College is an ideal place to begin your journey. Through our pre-veterinary track, you’ll receive excellent preparation for veterinary school while building a strong foundation in biology, chemistry and animal science. You’ll be supported by expert faculty, a rigorous curriculum and real-world opportunities that develop both your academic and professional skills.
As a pre-vet student, you’ll typically major in biology or a related science and work closely with an academic advisor to meet the specific requirements for veterinary school admission. You’ll also gain relevant experience through internships, field research and volunteering with veterinary professionals.

Credits and Requirements
Pre-veterinary is not a major but a professional track. Students typically major in biology, environmental science, or molecular biology/biochemistry while completing the prerequisites for veterinary school.
Hands-On Learning Opportunities
You’ll gain hands-on learning experience through internships at animal hospitals, farms, and conservation organizations. Goshen College’s 1,189-acre Merry Lea Environmental Learning Center also offers opportunities for field-based learning in animal ecology and environmental systems.
Many students also take part in research through the Maple Scholars program or work directly with faculty on collaborative science projects involving wildlife, farm animals, or microbiology.
Scholarships
All incoming students are automatically considered for merit-based academic scholarships. Additional opportunities may be available through the biology department and financial aid office.
Facilities & Resources
You’ll conduct coursework in the state-of-the-art Schrock Science Hall and field studies at Merry Lea Environmental Learning Center. These facilities provide access to research labs, ecological habitats, and the kind of applied learning that veterinary schools value.
