Concentration

As a music major with a concentration in Music for Social Change at Goshen College, you’ll learn how music can be a powerful force for transformation—in individuals, communities, and the world. This unique program combines music education, social justice, and hands-on learning to prepare you for meaningful work in education, advocacy, community development, and the arts.
Inspired by El Sistema and similar international movements, this concentration is ideal for students who believe in music as a tool for equity, empowerment, and healing. Whether you see yourself leading community music programs, teaching in underserved schools, or launching your own initiative, you’ll graduate with the knowledge and experience to make an impact.

The Music for Social Change concentration is available as part of the music major. Students complete core music coursework along with specialized courses and fieldwork in social change, education, and community engagement.
