Visiting Professor of Chemistry

Position Summary:
The Chemistry Department invites applications for a full-time 1-year teaching position starting in August 2026, with the possibility of extension for an additional year. We seek candidates to teach the department’s organic, biochemistry and related courses. The position involves preparing and teaching both the lecture and laboratory portions of the courses taught.
Responsibilities include teaching the undergraduate Organic Chemistry and Biochemistry courses. The successful candidate will also teach courses in the general education curriculum including Human Nutrition. Research involving undergraduates will be expected if the position is extended beyond 1-year. Review of applicants will begin immediately and continue until the position is filled.
Supervisory Responsibility:
The position will involve supervision of approximately 6 student teaching assistants each semester.
Essential Functions: (Core Job Responsibilities)
- Design and teach assigned courses with appropriate and engaged learning practices.
- Mentor students through academic advising and prospects in recruiting activities.
- Participate regularly in required meetings (department, faculty, committee, etc.)
- Pursue appropriate and useful professional development opportunities.
- Participate in campus activities and related community opportunities to build connections and develop relationships.
Education and Experience:
- A master’s degree in chemistry or related field is required; a PhD in chemistry or related field is
preferred.

Physical Demands:
- Ability to lift light loads (up to 20 pounds), bend over and reach to set up equipment for classes
- Long periods of sitting and use of keyboard
- Ability to complete primary tasks by viewing computer screen(s) for the majority of any given work day (extensive use of computer technology)
Work Environment/Environmental Conditions:
- Much of the work will take place in a standard indoor office or lab environment.
