Assistant or Associate Professor of Physiology

Position Summary:

The Biological Sciences Department seeks an individual to serve as a full-time assistant or associate professor on the tenure track, with expertise in physiology, anatomy, or a related field. Teaching faculty are on a 10-month contract, and the salary for this position will range from $53,000-68,000, based on education level and experience. The biology department offers bachelor of arts degrees in biology, molecular biology/biochemistry, marine biology, and environmental science & sustainability. Additionally, a master of arts in environmental education is offered. This position will mostly teach courses that support the Biology and Molecular Biology/Biochemistry majors, in addition to supporting courses for the nursing and exercise science majors. The department is healthy and collegial, and requires a scholar with skill in innovative teaching, compassionate mentoring, and with a vision for a physiology research program built around undergraduate students.

Position Duties:

  • Teaching courses and labs each semester, including anatomy & physiology, pathophysiology, and/or additional courses of the candidate’s design or in support of the department (possibilities include vertebrate physiology, developmental biology, immunology, etc.) or the college’s general education program.
  • Mentoring and advising undergraduate students in biology and the pre-health program
  • Mentoring undergraduates through their junior-senior thesis research projects (advising on process and supporting troubleshooting)

Position Qualifications:

  • BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
    • M.S. or Ph.D. in physiology, or related area of biological sciences
    • Experience in teaching and/or mentoring
    • Research experience in physiology or related area
  • OTHER REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Work Environment/Environmental Conditions:

Mostly inside/office conditions; Temperatures are usually moderate; Artificial lighting; Some exposure to dust and molds. Must use stairs or elevators to use toilet facilities. Using computers and other office equipment; moving around campus, inside and outside.
