Assistant or Associate Professor of Mathematics, Computer Science, or Data Science

Goshen College is a Christian liberal arts institution that prepares students to thrive in life, leadership and service. We strive to model an inclusive community committed to transformative justice, peace, and sustainability. A respect and appreciation of the Anabaptist- Mennonite faith perspective and practices, and a commitment to the mission, vision, core values and community standards of Goshen College, are important for teaching and administrative faculty members.

Position Summary:

Goshen College invites applications for a full-time appointment as Assistant or Associate Professor of Mathematics, Computer Science, or Data Science with expertise in one or more of the three disciplines starting July 2027. Leadership as Department Chair (with associated stipend or course release) is available for candidates with prior  teaching and administrative experience seeking appointment at the Associate Professor level.

Primary teaching responsibilities will be in the areas of mathematics, computer science, and/or data science as well as updating current curriculum to reflect future trends in the fields. In addition to teaching, the position includes recruiting, advising, and mentoring an increasingly culturally, racially and religiously diverse student body and supporting departmental co-curriculars.

The mathematics and computer science department offers majors in Computer Science and Mathematics as well as minors in Computer Science, Game Development, and Mathematics. We plan to launch a Data Science major and minor in 2027-28. The department also offers some lower-level courses to serve students majoring in other disciplines. All faculty members have opportunities to develop courses within their expertise.

Goshen College is a teaching college and the courses you will teach are spread across two semesters and a May term (e.g., 4 courses in Fall, 3 in Spring, and 1 during May Term). All teaching faculty serve on institution-wide committees and assist with advising (although not usually during the first year), as well as recruiting prospective students. The successful candidate must be ready to contribute to our strong tradition of excellence in scholarship as well as teaching. Candidates must be interested in working closely with students and fellow faculty members as part of a small, vibrant campus and community.

  • Computer Science: Core and applied topics depending on background (e.g., Programming, Discrete Structures, Database Design, Web Applications, Systems
    Analysis, or Software Project Management).

Candidates are not expected to cover all areas, but should demonstrate a strong interest in teaching core mathematics alongside topics in CS or Data Science, with opportunities to expand teaching breadth over time.
