Description
POSITION SUMMARY: The purpose of the CCE Summer Camp & Events Assistant is to provide support and assistance in overseeing camps. They will assist all camps with registration, welcoming, supervising, directing, and checking out campers. They will support camp directors by leading group activities, assisting with pre and post assessments, monitoring camps and responding to incidents, such as behavioral concerns or accidents. They should be positive, proactive, and caring while providing support to camp leaders, Youth Outreach Coordinator, and Events Office staff. This position is 30-35 hours per week with occasional mandatory weekend hours. They will support and follow the core values of the college and agree to live by Goshen College’s community standards.
Primary Functions:
– Enthusiastically welcome guests; answer questions and direct to proper locations
– Support camp staff, Youth Outreach Coordinator and Events Office teams
– Monitor campers to help manage behaviors and prevent accidents, document events and incidents
– Document activities and share observations regarding camper participation
– Maintain professionalism when handling confidential information
– Assist the Youth Outreach Coordinator with all administrative duties
– Respond to camp director and camper needs during the day and evening/weekend on call hours
– Assist with event setup, teardown, and signage
– Other duties or projects as assigned
Qualifications
– Attentive, responsible, and detail oriented
– Background in education and experience working with children in a classroom setting preferred
– Physical ability to participate in activities, run, climb, lift, or support the weight of children
– Ability to work both independently and in a team setting
– Creative and problem solving skills
– Excellent communication skills, especially with diverse populations
– Bilingual (Spanish and/or ASL) preferred
– Certified in CPR and First Aid (Training will be provided if needed)
