Why Study Theater Education at Goshen College?

If you’re passionate about theater and feel called to teach, the theater education minor at Goshen College is a powerful way to prepare for licensure to teach theater in grades 5–12. This minor is designed for students pursuing secondary education licensure who want to add the ability to teach drama as part of their certification.
Through coursework, hands-on classroom experience, and stage production work, you’ll explore acting, directing, stagecraft, and more while developing essential teaching skills. GC’s supportive faculty will help you combine your love of performance with the tools you need to inspire the next generation of young artists.
Curriculum and Requirements
The theater education minor consists of 20–21 credit hours and must be paired with a secondary education major to meet licensure requirements.

Hands-On Learning Opportunities
You’ll gain real-world experience through student teaching placements in local schools, as well as backstage and performance work in GC’s theater productions. This hands-on approach ensures you’re ready to lead a classroom and a cast with confidence.
Scholarships
Students pursuing theater education may qualify for performance-based theater scholarships, as well as education-specific awards and general academic scholarships.
Facilities & Resources
You’ll train and perform in the Umble Center, GC’s flexible black box theater, as well as access fully equipped costume and scene shops, rehearsal spaces, and classrooms designed for collaborative creativity.
