INT 320 Sign to Voice Interpreting

The course introduces theory and skills of interpreting from sign to spoken English. Topics include ways to increase both ASL and English vocabulary, text analysis, voice tone and register, word choices, and the process of sign to voice interpreting. The course also introduces the skills necessary to achieve message equivalency when interpreting into spoken English. The student will differentiate contextual factors affecting language usage in the interpreting process, and will begin to demonstrate an ability to produce dynamic equivalence from source language to target language. Prerequisite: INT 301 or consent of the instructor.
