Assistant or Associate Professor of Nursing - Acute/Medical/Surgical Specialty

Position Summary

Goshen College invites applications for a full-time (10 month contract) Assistant or Associate Professor of Nursing. Primary responsibilities include clinical supervision in the specialty areas of Acute care and Medical/Surgical nursing II. Goshen College faculty serve on institution-wide committees, mentor and advise students, and participate in student recruitment for their respective program. Candidates must be interested in working closely with a diverse range of students, fellow faculty members, and admissions as part of a small, vibrant campus and community.

Essential Functions: (Core Job Responsibilities)

  •  Provide content expertise in the speciality area of Acute Care and Medical/Surgical nursing care
    • Serve as content expert
    • Schedule clinical experiences in this specialty area
    • Oversight of nursing student clinical experiences
  • Prepare course syllabi and teach courses and evaluate student work, as assigned
    • Teach assigned courses using community-engaged learning practices, including
      • load associated with didactic and clinical group assignments- Fall Acute focus
      • load associated with didactic and clinical group assignment- Spring
        Medical/Surgical focus
      • Additional load assigned to nursing simulations in these content areas
    • Review and revise course student learning outcomes to align with AACN Essentials for Nursing
    • Evaluate student learning in the clinical setting
  • Actively coach, mentor and guide students through advising, professional development, and role acquisition
  • Actively participate in departmental activities and committees
  • Actively participates in college wide activities and committees as assigned or required

Education and Experience:

  • Master’s degree in nursing required
  • Doctorate in nursing preferred

Certifications, Licenses, Registrations:

  • TNCC preferred
  • RN licenses required for the state of Indiana
  •  Additional certifications in this specialty area are a plus

Skills and Competencies:

Required:

  • Expertise in the field of Acute care and medical/surgical nursing
  • Excellent aptitude and ability in teaching and/or applied practice
  • Collaborative and creative approach to working relationships with colleagues, students, and community partners
  • Demonstrated intercultural competence and ability to work effectively with others in a diverse, multicultural environment
  • Strong organizational skills

Preferred:

  • Fluency in Spanish; other language abilities welcome
  • Previous teaching in higher education
  • Previous experience with clinical oversight of undergraduate nursing students

Special Requirements:

  • Ability to travel to clinical sites with students
  • May require evening or weekend hours on occasion

Physical Demands:

  • Ability to lift light loads (up to 25 pounds)
  • Prolonged sitting and use of keyboard
  • Ability to complete primary tasks by viewing computer screen(s) for the majority of any given work day (extensive use of computer technology)
  • Considerable phone use and operation of copier and other standard office equipment

Work Environment/Environmental Conditions:

  • Work will primarily take place in a standard indoor office environment and in acute care hospital settings interacting with other facility staff.
