Martin Luther King Jr. Study Day at Goshen College


students at a workshop Each year Goshen College honors the life and work of Martin Luther King Jr. by holding an all-school Study Day, emphasizing the values and ideals that characterized King's work.

The Study Day features distinguished speakers such as Rev. Dr. C.T. Vivian, a distinguished veteran of the civil rights movement and close associate of Martin Luther King Jr. as well as Dr. Vincent Harding, another distinguished veteran of the civil rights movement and associate of Martin Luther King Jr.

This year's MLK Jr. Study Day at Goshen College
was held on January 21st, 2008, and featured a lecture/demonstration of “Bomba: Afro-Puerto Rican Music” by AfriCaribe, a nonprofit organization dedicated to the preservation, research, promotion and development of the Puerto Rican and Caribbean cultures through music, dance, theater and other artistic media.

Many famous people have visited Goshen College during its 112-year history — none more famous than the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. The slain civil right leader visited Goshen College on March 10, 1960. At the time, King was leading the struggle for racial equality throughout the South.
