Why Choose Goshen College for History?

Our program emphasizes both depth of content and practical application. You’ll examine global, U.S., and regional histories with a focus on social justice, peace and diverse perspectives. Through small, discussion-based classes and close faculty mentorship, you’ll sharpen your ability to analyze complex issues and communicate with clarity.

Goshen also offers a History Pre-Law major, which combines historical insight with critical thinking and argumentation skills—ideal preparation for law school or policy work.

    While pre-law is not a major, it is a carefully guided academic track that pairs well with majors like history, political studies, peace and justice, business, English and more.

  • Political Studies

    Whether you’re interested in law, government, education, advocacy or nonprofit leadership, this program equips you with the critical thinking and communication skills to lead with insight and purpose.

  • Undecided

    Choosing to be undecided means being intentional about finding a path that’s right for you.

    Experiential Learning Opportunities

    As a history student, you’ll gain hands-on experience through:

    • Internships with museums, archives, nonprofits, government agencies and legal offices
    • Opportunities to work on faculty-led research projects or public history initiatives
    • Study-Service Term (SST) or cross-cultural courses that deepen global historical context
    • Student presentations at academic conferences and campus symposiums

    Past internship sites include:

    • Mennonite Church USA Archives
    • Local attorneys and public service offices

     

    Scholarships and Financial Aid

    Students in our history programs may qualify for the James R. and Mary Graber Miller Scholarship, awarded to juniors and seniors with a demonstrated interest in history.

    All incoming students are also considered for academic scholarships and need-based aid.
