Indiana Colleges Mathematics Contest

Gustavo Gonzalez and Avery Schiller participated in the Indiana Colleges Mathematics Contest held at Marina University on Friday, April 5, 2024.  Teams of up to three students each worked on solving eight problems over a two hour period.  The Goshen College team earned third place out of 27 teams with a score of 45 points out of a possible 80 points. The competition was part of the spring meeting of the Indiana Section of the Mathematical Association of America where David Housman spoke about the Probability a group element is pivotal, and all three enjoyed listening to talks about mathematics and 19th century eclipse expeditions, open source and online texts, climate change impacts on hurricane storm surge risk, and a variety of other topics.
