Carol has been working as an environmental educator since 1990, primarily in various parts of the northern Midwest. Since starting at Merry Lea in 2001, Carol has served in many roles. Her main focus throughout this time has been on providing educational opportunities for the children and youth of northern Indiana.

Since 2018, Carol has done this particularly through serving as Merry Lea’s lead Nature Preschool teacher. Carol also designs and facilitates public programs for folks of all ages. She delights in helping others discover and notice the wonder in the small, unnoticed beauty around us all the time.

In addition to her teaching roles, Carol also has overseen Merry Lea’s bird banding research work since 2016. Carol has a federal Master Bander permit through the US Geological Survey’s Bird Banding Lab. As Merry Lea’s bander, Carol supervises undergraduate student interns and a dedicated group of volunteers each summer.

Carol enjoys birding, hiking, taking photos, watercolor painting, reading, knitting and spending time with family and friends near and far.
