Alumni Award Nominations

The Culture for Service Awards and Young Alumni Servant Leadership Award are established by the Goshen Alumni Association to honor and recognize the achievements of Goshen College alumni who exemplify the college motto, “Culture for Service,” and who live out the core values of the college.

Culture for Service Awards Criteria

The nominee will:

  • Be a living alumna/us who has graduated from the college.
  • Exemplify Culture for Service and live a life consistent with the core values:  Christ-centered, passionate learners, global citizens, compassionate peacemakers and servant leaders.
  • Have distinguished record of service and/or achievement to home, church, college, community and world. They are committed to seeking a life which  balances the demands of their professional, church, community and family life.
  • One Young Alumni Servant Leadership Award will be presented annually to an alumna/us at or before their 15th class reunion year. They must meet the same criteria and guidelines stated above.

Process

Completed nomination application forms are submitted either via mail or email at alumni@goshen.edu to the alumni office, which makes sure the information is complete. Complete nominations, which include multiple completed application forms and supporting documents, are submitted to the Awards and Recognition Committee of the Executive Board of the Goshen College Alumni Council. Applications are accepted on an on-going basis. Nominations completed after January 15 will be considered for the following year.

* Current Goshen College employees or members of the Executive Board of the Alumni Association are not eligible for these awards.

Champions of Character Awards

The Champions of Character Awards were established by the Maple Leaf Athletic Club to honor and recognize those former student-athletes who have gone on to exemplify and demonstrate the core values of Goshen College and the NAIA in their lives, work and community service. The Maple Leaf Athletic Club established the Champions of Character Awards in 2006 and they are annually presented to a male and female alumni athlete. The awards are named the Dr. Ruth Gunden Award and the Dr. Roman Gingerich Award. Gunden and Gingerich were pioneers in Goshen College’s athletic history.

Criteria

The nominee will:

  • Be a living alumna/us who participated on a sports team at Goshen College and has graduated from the college.
  • Live a life consistent with the Champions of Character Core Values: Respect, Responsibility, Integrity, Sportsmanship and Servant Leadership.
  • Have distinguished record of service and/or achievement to home, church, college, community and world. They are committed to seeking a life which balances the demands of their professional, church, community and family life.

Process

Complete nominations are reviewed by the Maple Leaf Athletic Club council members. Applications are accepted on an on-going basis. Applications that are completed after March will be considered for the following year.

*Current Goshen College employees are not eligible for these awards.
