Solomia’s Big Moment

May 15 2023

By Amy Budd

Music professor Solomia Soroka was delighted that we were going to experience a world premiere at Wigmore Hall on Saturday, May 13. And then, we found out composer Grant McLachlan world be there!  His newest work is a song cycle for baritone, double bass and piano based on several poems. It’s called The Silence Of the Day.

How wonderful that we were able to be in its first audience! Solomia introduced herself to Mr. McLachlan at the interval and he joined the Goshen College group for a photo after the performance.

The Silence Of the Day was beautifully performed by baritone vocalist Theo Magongoma, Leon Bosch on double bass, and Tessa Uys at the piano.
