Goshen College’s Vox Profundi choir to tour eastern U.S. during spring break

2022 Vox Profundi choir

The Goshen College Vox Profundi low voice choir will spend their spring break touring and performing in churches and schools in Pennsylvania, Maryland, Virginia, and Ohio from Feb. 26 through March 4, with a home concert on Sunday, March 6 at 7:30 p.m. in the Goshen College Music Center’s Sauder Concert Hall.

The tour will focus on the theme “Walk Through the Valley in Peace,” with special emphasis on sacred a cappella literature, and music that originates in places such as Russia, Finland, France, New Zealand, and from African American spirituals. The choir is directed by Dr. Scott Hochstetler, professor of music.

“The choral field has been particularly hard-hit by COVID-19, shuttering choral rehearsals and organizations across the world,” Hostetler said. “As difficult as it was to deal with a world without choirs, the situation helped us appreciate the power of the arts to help us face difficult times and to express our sorrows, joys and our longings.”

Vox Profundi, founded in January of 2004, follows in the long tradition of Goshen College low voice singing groups beginning with the men’s glee clubs and the Rambler Quartet of the early 1900s. Vox Profundi performs music from all genres and time periods with special emphasis on sacred a cappella literature. The group performs in on-campus choral concerts and represent the college on periodic tours.
