Admissions Decision and Next Steps

After these documents are received, the Admissions Office will make an admissions decision r egarding your admission to Goshen College. You will be notified about this decision via email. This decision will include the academic scholarship that you are eligible to receive. Once you are admitted to Goshen College, you must submit the following:

  • A copy of the first page of your passport
  • A completed Goshen College Financial Affordability Form. This form should reflect the amount of funding that you and/or a sponsor(s) will contribute each year toward your time at Goshen College.

Financial Aid Notification

After the passport and the Goshen College Financial Affordability Form are received, the Financial Aid Office will put together a financial aid notification for you. This document will show how much scholarship and grant money you are eligible to receive from Goshen College, as well as how much you will owe to Goshen College for tuition, room and board costs per year.

The Financial Aid Office puts these notifications together once a month from January through May. You MUST have the necessary materials submitted by the first week of a given month in order to receive your financial aid notification during that month.

Once you receive your financial aid notification, you must provide proof that you have the funding available to cover the cost of your tuition, room and board minus scholarships and grants, and also an additional $1,500 to pay for textbooks and health insurance. This proof should be submitted through certified bank statements.

Bank statements must be certified, and can come from your personal bank account or the personal bank account of an  immediate family member.
If you have a sponsor(s), then the sponsor must submit a certified bank statement and sponsor letter as well. The sponsor letter must be sent directly from the sponsor to the Admissions Office, and must include the amount of funding the sponsor is planning to contribute per year, as well as how many years the sponsor is planning to contribute the given amount.

Final Steps to Receive an I-20 Document

Once you decide to commit to coming to Goshen College, you must submit a $200 nonrefundable deposit. This deposit will go towards what you owe for the first semester. This payment can be made to Goshen College through the service Flywire or through the Goshen College website.

A student will receive their I-20 after a deposit has been made to Goshen College and proof of finances has been verified.

After you have submitted your enrollment deposit, you must complete the following:

  • Sign up for a class registration time (done with the help of the Admissions Office).
  • Complete your Online Orientation
  • Pay the I-901 SEVIS fee and schedule a visa appointment at the U.S. Embassy.
  • Review the International Student Welcome Guide (emailed by the Admissions Office).
  • Confirm arrival date/time with the Admissions Office.

Disclaimer for admitted international students who have no direct expenses owed to Goshen College

International students who have no direct expenses owed to Goshen College must also abide by the International Student Enrollment Policy, which states that students who do not owe Goshen College directly for semester costs must make a deposit to their Goshen College account in the amount listed on their I-20 as “personal funds.” This deposit must be made by August 1 of their first semester at GC if enrolling in the fall (or December 1 if enrolling in the spring). If this deposit is not made by the specified deadline, the college reserves the right to withdraw the student and have their I-20 revoked.

International Admissions Policy:

Purpose: The purpose of this policy is to ensure that prior to their arrival on campus, international students who have no direct expenses owed to Goshen College have secured the financial means to cover their indirect expenses (housing, meals, books, supplies, etc.) while enrolled at Goshen College.

Assumptions:

  • International students already provide a bank statement during the admissions process to demonstrate their financial ability to attend Goshen College.
  • International students’ I-20s are not approved unless their bank statements demonstrate that they have the financial means to attend Goshen College (including tuition, room & board, textbooks, health insurance and other personal expenses).
  • International students complete Goshen College’s Financial Responsibility Agreement following their admission to Goshen College to demonstrate their understanding of the personal financial commitments required to enroll at Goshen College.

Policy:

International students who have been admitted to Goshen College, and are expected to enroll with no direct expenses owed to the College, must make a deposit by August 1 (for Fall enrollment) or December 1 (for Spring enrollment) in an amount that is equivalent to their “Personal Funds” for one semester of enrollment at Goshen College (first semester tuition, living and other personal expenses less financial aid).

For reference, international students’ educational expenses (tuition, living and other personal expenses less financial aid) are listed on the student’s I-20s as “Personal Funds.”

If a full deposit for the first semester’s educational expenses is not made by the specified deadline for enrollment, Goshen College may withdraw the student, and the student may not be permitted to enroll at Goshen College until the required deposit has been provided. Once the required deposit has been made, the student may reapply for admission for the subsequent enrollment term. (NOTE: Under U.S. law, if withdrawn from enrollment, the student’s SEVIS status will also be withdrawn, and they will need to leave the U.S. within 15 days. If they do not re-enroll at Goshen College within 5 months, the student will need to go through the SEVIS application process again.)

Credit balances caused by financial aid or excess payment may be refunded to the student upon request only after all charges and aid due to Goshen College have posted to accounts. This occurs after the end of the drop/add date for the semester.
