GJHS Choir Accompanist Instructor

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Daily Accompanist for the GJH and GIS Choirs
  • Collaboration skills needed
  • Organization skills
  • Record keeping as requested by director
  • Ability to coach sectionals and help individual students as needed
  • Ability to play parts independent from the ensemble
  • Ability to perform choral piano accompaniments.

Job Description:

  • Assist Music Ensembles throughout the day under the direction of the classroom teacher.
  • Accompany the choirs in concert and daily rehearsals including warm-ups if requested
  • Be available for administrative tasks such as taking attendance, distributing tickets
  • Given adequate notice, be available for all performances of the assisted classes.
  • Be available to run individual, small group, section, or full group instruction for specified lengths of time.
  • Be available to run the classroom rehearsal in circumstances where the classroom teacher may not be present and a qualified music substitute would be unavailable.

Critical Attributes

  • The beginning of the class periods is a critical time period to be present in assisting the classroom teacher to move into instructional time as quickly as possible. The Music Instructional Assistant can be pushing students to be ready as quickly as possible and to begin taking attendance (and/or helping tune in the orchestra class).
  • Bring a positive and constructive presence to the classroom for the benefit of all students and instructors.
  • When not actively involved in assisting activities, seek out ways (or tasks) that will be of greatest assistance to the students and instructors at those times.
  • Communicate with the leading classroom teacher regarding assigned hours to maximize effectiveness of allotted time.
  • WORK CALENDAR:  School Year – 180 days per year; 29.5 hours per week

 

Qualifications

Must be at least 18 years of age
Bachelors degree
