Senior Financial Analyst

Position Summary:
The senior financial analyst supports the president and senior leaders by providing data-driven business analyses and financial planning to achieve institutional goals. This position supports the development of financial management reporting, annual operating budgets, long-range forecasting, financial modeling and optimization of donor-restricted fund creation and utilization.
This is a half-time to full-time salary, exempt position.
Essential Functions:
- Compilation of multi-year financial forecasting for the institution
- Collaborate with key stakeholders groups (i.e. advancement, admissions, financial aid, president’s cabinet) to compile data inputs for long-range forecasting.
- Develop robust, accurate and dynamic forecasting and modeling tools
- Refresh forecast on an annual basis and conduct reporting to stakeholder groups.
- The president or designee is responsible for final approval of data inputs and drivers, oversight of the completed forecast deliverables, and presentation to internal and external constituents.
- Development of the annual operating budget in support of institutional goals
- Streamline and improve budget processes supporting effective stakeholder engagement and meeting institutional timelines.
- Collaborate with human resources and accounting services to enhance accuracy of wage and benefit budgeting.
- Contribute to the development and distribution of management reporting.
- Compile reporting packages in support of budget presentations.
- Provide variance analysis reporting and quarterly budget commentary to accompany financial statements.
- The president or designee is responsible for final budget decisions and communication with the broader campus community, president’s cabinet, college board and other external parties.
- Contribute to optimization of donor-restricted funds
- Provide analysis and reporting of restricted fund utilization.
- Collaborate with organizational leaders to engage strategic use of donor-restricted funds.
- Contribute to institutional financial analysis and decision support
- Contribute analysis and advisory functions to various finance committees including budget, capital and grants.
- Consult with leaders on development of new programs and initiatives providing business analysis and financial modeling.
- Support financial modeling and analysis of payroll and benefit initiatives in human resources.
- Develop financial modeling of tuition and discounting for financial aid.
- Under the direction of executive leadership, conduct full service line, academic program or departmental financial analyses in support of institutional goals.
- Complete market research and establish financial benchmarking analysis for organizational and departmental performance.
- Other duties as assigned in support of finance functions in the institution
Supervisory Responsibility:
- This position collaborates closely with executive leadership, administrative faculty and teaching faculty across the institution. This position does not entail supervisory duties.
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance or business administration required
- A minimum of three years experience in finance or accounting related positions
Certifications, Licenses, Registrations:
- CPA preferred
Skills and Competencies:
- Strong communication skills; especially in communicating financial concepts and analysis
- Analytical and reasoning skills; ability to translate complex data and analyses into easily understandable and actionable information
- Financial modeling; ability to create organizational, departmental, service line and programmatic financial statements in a consistent and accurate manner
- Organizational savvy; ability to effectively navigate organizational networks and hierarchies to accomplish assigned tasks
- Strong skills in worksheet (Excel) and reporting applications
Physical Demands:
- Ability to lift light loads (up to 25 pounds)
- Prolonged sitting and use of keyboard
- Ability to complete primary tasks by viewing computer screen(s) for the majority of any given work day (extensive use of computer technology)
- Considerable phone use and operation of copier and other standard office equipment
Work Environment/Environmental Conditions:
- Work will primarily take place in a standard indoor office environment
- A remote work agreement may be negotiated provided there is adequate internet connectivity and a private home office environment
