Assistant or Associate Professor of Kinesiology

Position Summary:

Goshen College invites applications for a full-time appointment as Assistant or Associate Professor of Kinesiology starting August 10, 2026. 

Responsibilities of this position include designing and teaching undergraduate in person courses in sport management and physical education. Additionally, the faculty member in this position will serve as an academic advisor, work with students and supervisors in practicum and internship experiences, meet with prospective students and families during campus visits, participate in recruiting events, develop and build relationships with local and regional communities, attend required meetings and serve on institutional wide committees. 

The kinesiology department offers majors in exercise science, physical education and sport management as well as minors in each area and a coaching certificate. We are seeking applicants with expertise in sport management who can also teach introductory kinesiology courses, physical education, wellness and/or activity classes. 

Candidates will work closely with students and colleagues as part of a small vibrant campus community with cultural, racial and religious diversity.  We value excellent teaching and a mindset that recognizes we must change how we teach to accommodate the changing landscape of higher education.

Essential Functions: (Core Job Responsibilities)

  • Design and teach assigned courses with appropriate and engaged learning practices.
  • Mentor students through academic advising and prospects in recruiting activities.
  • Participate regularly in required meetings (department, faculty, committee, etc.)
  • Pursue appropriate and useful professional development opportunities.
  • Participate in campus activities and related community opportunities to build connections and develop relationships. 

Supervisory Responsibility:

  • Student practicum and internship experiences on and off campus. 
  • Student employees in the department when approved.

Education and Experience:

Minimum qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Sport Management, Kinesiology or closely related area
  • 2-5 years related teaching experience higher education
  • Commitment to excellence in teaching and mentoring
  • Commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion in higher education
  • Commitment to the mission and core values of Goshen College 

Skills and Competencies:

Required:

  • Engaging, creative, student centered teacher
  • Collaborative department member
  • Active engagement in professional organizations

Preferred:

  • Doctoral degree in Sport Management

Physical Demands:  

  • Ability to lift medium loads (up to 50 pounds), bend over and reach to setting up and moving equipment for classes.
  • Ability to assist practicum and interns with projects in the building or on the grounds.
  • Long periods of sitting and use of keyboard
  • Ability to complete primary tasks by viewing computer screen(s) for the majority of any given work day (extensive use of computer technology)

Work Environment/Environmental Conditions:

  • Much of the work will primarily take place in a standard indoor office environment.
  • Some light work and/or teaching outside.
