GOSHEN, Ind. – The Goshen Maple Leafs men’s and women’s outdoor track and field teams will combine to send four student-athletes to the NAIA National Championships in Gulf Shores, Alabama. Teresa Ross Richer, Annika Fisher, Jacob Gerber, and Simon Graber Miller will leave Goshen next week and compete in “The Yellowhammer State” from Wednesday, May 25 to Friday, May 27.

Goshen fans can expect to see our two seniors step up and lead the way. Both Simon and Jacob have been All-Americans before this year, and they want to finish their careers strong. Teresa and Annika are running individual events for the first time, so this is an excellent experience for them. I'm confident each athlete will be prepared to compete their very best and take advantage of any and all opportunities.
Head Coach Rustin Nyce

Teresa Ross Richer hit the NAIA A Standard when she competed in the St. Paddy’s Marathon in Des Moines, Iowa on March 19. Her time of 3:28:50.65 was more than five minutes better than the NAIA A Standard time of 3:34:00.00 in the 26.2-mile race. She was the only freshman, male or female, to qualify in the marathon at the NAIA level. Only the half marathon will be offered at the National Championships, which Ross Richer will compete in with the half marathon qualifiers and the other marathon qualifiers.

Ross Richer ran a negative split in the St. Paddy's Marathon. She ran a time of 1:45:38 for the first 13.1 miles and a faster time of 1:43:11 in the latter half. On average, she was running at a 7:58 pace per mile. Ross Richer is one of just four women that qualified for the NAIA in the marathon – and she is the only freshman in that group.

Annika Fisher qualified in the women’s 1500 at the George Glass Invitational and later improved on that time and broke the school record. She ran a 4:39.88 in the event at the Little State Championship, breaking a 21-year-old record. The previous record of 4:41.46 was set by Heidi Saunders in 2001.

Jacob Gerber is coming off of three straight event wins in the hammer throw, including a first-place finish at the Crossroads League Championship. His winning throw of 60.24 meters (197 feet, eight inches) at the league meet earned him the Crossroads League Men’s Field Athlete of the Week award and a spot on the All-Crossroads League Team. Gerber’s best throw this year was 60.57 meters (198 feet, nine inches) at the Indiana Tech Monday Meet, which places him sixth in the NAIA in that event.

Simon Graber Miller achieved the NAIA B Standard in the high jump at the Indiana Tech Monday Meet by clearing 2.05 meters (6 feet, 8.75 inches) and winning the event. He is tied for 14th among NAIA competitors.
