After receiving a standing ovation from a sanctuary filled with Goshen College students, faculty and staff, the incoming president, James E. Brenneman, opened the first convocation of the year by noting how the abundant grace of God has sustained and strengthened the college since its beginnings.

May 11, 2006 - Goshen College announces date for Brenneman inauguration
Goshen College is preparing to welcome President-elect James E. Brenneman to campus in July, when he begins his term of leadership, and has announced its plans for inauguration festivities during the first full week of September, highlighted by the installation ceremony on Sunday, Sept. 10.

Dec. 6, 2005 - Brenneman confirmed to serve as 16th president of Goshen College
The Goshen College Board of Directors announced finalization of its appointment of educator, biblical theologian and church leader James E. Brenneman to serve as the college’s 16th president, beginning July 1, 2006, for a four-year term of leadership of the 111-year-old institution. With Goshen College’s relationship to Mennonite Church USA through Mennonite Education Agency (MEA), the MEA Board of Directors affirmed the appointment on Nov. 28.

Goshen College announced today that educator, biblical theologian and church leader Dr. James Brenneman is the candidate of choice to be the 16th president of the 111-year-old institution committed “to educating servant leaders for the church and the world.”

Jan. 4, 2005 - Presidential Search Committee meets to begin process
When the newly named members of the Goshen College Presidential Search Committee gathered from across the country in Kansas City for their first meeting, they were directed by Virgil Miller, chair of the Goshen College Board of Directors, and Rosalind E. Andreas, chair of the Mennonite Education Agency (MEA) Board of Directors, to “reach out within the church to include many voices in this process to inform your prayerful work together.”

Interim president appointed for Goshen College
Under the authorization of the college’s Board of Directors, plans have been made for providing direction and managing campus affairs while the search for a new president takes place, said Virgil Miller, chair of the Goshen College Board of Directors. He announced that John D. Yordy has accepted the invitation to serve as Goshen College’s interim president.

Aug. 2, 2004 - Leadership transition for 100-year-old institution: Showalter resigns
Chair of Goshen College’s Board of Directors Virgil Miller announced today to college faculty, staff and students that President Shirley H. Showalter is resigning her position in order to join the Fetzer Institute of Kalamazoo, Mich.
