Megan Histand
Seniors to perform recitals at Goshen College
Tenor Bradley Cullen will present his senior voice recital at 7 p.m. March 20 in Room 28 of the colleges Administration Building, accompanied by Kenneth Kauffman at the piano.
Cullens program includes art songs from the Baroque, Classical and Romantic periods by Handel, Falconieri, Donizetti, Schubert and Schumann, Strauss, Liszt and Duparc. He will also perform contemporary pieces by Frank Bridge, John Duke and Ralph Vaughan-Williams. Sophomore Nicole Kandel, violist, will accompany Cullen on the Vaughan-Williams piece.
Cullen, a music major at GC, is the son of Esther Cullen of Lyndhurst, Va., and Larry Cullen of Greensboro, NC. He graduated from Eastern Mennonite High School (EMHS) in Harrisonburg, Va., in 1995.
Cullen participated in the touring and chamber choirs at EMHS and the community choir group Resound, under the leadership of EMHS choir director Jay Hartzler. At GC, Cullen has been involved in the Chorale, Goshen Community Choir and is a member of the GC Chamber Choir. Cullen played the lead role of Tamino in GCs production of "The Magic Flute" in February 1998.
Megan Histand will present her senior theater recital at 8:30 p.m. April 9 in GCs Umble Center.
She will be performing Calm Down, Mother by Megan Terry, a play exploring the lives of various women through the emphasis on movement, short scenes and poetic interludes.
Histand, originally from Quakertown, Pa., is the daughter of Ivan and Martene Histand of Perkasie, Pa. She graduated from Christopher Dock Mennonite High School (CD) in 1995.
At CD, Histand had her first opportunity to direct a scene, from The Diary of Anne Frank, for the schools Spring Arts Day program. Though she was involved in a variety of plays throughout high school, she did not develop a serious interest in theater until college. Histand said, "After spending six hours a day in Umble Center my first semester, I decided I might as well make it worth my time and major in theater." Histand became interested in physical theater during an internship in Chicago this past summer.
Soprano Neisha Walker will perform her senior recital at 7 p.m. April 9 in Room 28 of the colleges Administration Building.
Walker, an interdisciplinary major at GC, is the daughter of Annette Miller of Houston, Texas, and Charles Walker of Rocklin, Calif. She graduated from Alief Elsik High School in 1994.
Walker will perform works by Mozart, Wolf, Quilter, Cesti, Poulenc, Rivier and Ives. Her program also includes "My House" from Bernsteins musical, "Peter Pan" and a chamber piece by Schubert. Walker and junior Kari Brenneman will close with a soprano duet titled "The Lord is My Shepherd" by Grier and Everson.
Walker played the role of one of the three Ladies in GCs production of "The Magic Flute" in February 1998 and is currently a member of the GC Chamber Choir.
Violinist Jessica Landes will perform her senior recital at 3 p.m. April 10 in GCs Umble Center. Her program will include sonatas by Bach and Beethoven and a concerto piece by Saint-Saens.
Landes, a music major, is the daughter of Rich and Jan Landes of Akron, Pa. She studied violin with Michael Jamanis at the Pennsylvania Academy of Music for three years. She was also involved in orchestra and musical productions at Lancaster Mennonite High School (LMHS); she graduated from LMHS in 1995.
Landes has participated in the GC Orchestra and Maple City Orchestra, soloed in the Presidents Inaugural Concert, and recently performed Beethovens "Concerto for Piano, Violin and Cello." She studied ethnomusicology and taught violin during her Study-Service Term in Indonesia and is currently involved in GCs strings preparatory program.
Tenor Julian Gingerich will perform his senior recital at 7 p.m. April 16, in Room 28 of GCs Administration Building.
Gingerich, a music major, is the son of Tom and Jeannette Gingerich of Hubbard, Ore. He graduated from Canby Union High School in 1995.
Gingerich is currently a member of the GC Chamber Choir. He played the lead role of Tamino in GCs production of "The Magic Flute" in February 1998.
Soprano Lorri Briggs will present her senior voice recital at 7 p.m. April 23 in GCs Umble Center. Her program will include pieces by Purcell, Bach, Mozart, Gluck, Brahms, Mendelssohn and Chaminade.
Briggs, a GC music major, is the daughter of Daniel and Annette Briggs of Three Rivers, Mich. She graduated from Hackett Catholic Center in 1995. Briggs has participated in the GC Chorale and Womens Ensemble.
Tim Dueck will give a senior piano recital April 30 at 7 p.m. in GCs Umble Center.
He will perform pieces by Bach, Debussy, Schumann and Joplin as well as ensemble music. Dueck along with seniors Jessica Yoder, violin, and Kristen Metzler, horn, form the "Chaos" trio. Duecks sister, junior Hannah Dueck, will accompany him with flute on a piece Dueck composed titled "Seven Vignettes for Piano and Flute."
Dueck, a physics and music double major at GC with an emphasis in piano pedagogy, is the son of Allan and Laura Sue Dueck of Goshen. He graduated from the Mennonite Collegiate Institute, Gretna, Manitoba. While in high school, he participated in competitions in Manitoba at local and provincial level music festivals and began learning the Edvard Grieg "Concerto," which he performed for concerto-aria last spring. Dueck is a member of GCs Chamber Choir.
The Umble Center and Administration Building are accessible to people using wheelchairs and others with physical limitations.
