This specimen of Andreaea rothii shows the open capsule of the sporophyte generation and the dark reddish color of the family. Andreaea rothii with one capsule open and another still closed. The capsule of this moss is immersed in the leaves. The above photo shows the cross-section of a sporophyte under a light microscope. Close-up view of leaf shows the percurrent costa.
