Meet the Graber Roths

Greetings and happy New Year from Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. Welcome to the Goshen College Tanzania SST 2025 Blog! We (the Graber Roths) are eagerly awaiting the arrival of our Tanzania SSTers. They land at Julius Nyerere International Airport here in Dar es Salaam in a few short days!

We are excited for the journey that our fine group of SSTers will be on throughout this semester and we are glad to share glimpses of that journey with you through this blog. But first it might be helpful to introduce ourselves.

Adam is now in his third year in the Advancement Office at GC as a Major Gift Officer. He is a ’05 graduate of GC and has a MA in Peace Studies from Anabaptist Mennonite Biblical Seminary. Adam’s hobbies include playing ultimate frisbee, singing, and doing home renovation/carpentry.

Karen teaches Art and English Language Learners at Chamberlain Elementary. She is a ’08 graduate of GC and has her MA in Education from Indiana Wesleyan University. In her spare time Karen enjoys baking, canning, and choral singing.

We have three children. Reuben (7) is a second grader this year. He enjoys soccer and building with Lego. Hezekiah (4) is in preschool at CCYC. He is an avid ball player and loves being silly with friends. And lastly Evelyn (1) is starting to use words, has a knack for making those around her smile, and is finding new ways to tell her older brothers to back off!

We have been looking forward to leading Tanzania SST for some time. Africa holds a special place in our hearts as we have lived and served with Mennonite Central Committee in South Africa prior to having children (and Adam lived in Botswana as a child). While we haven’t been to Tanzania before this opportunity, we are loving the culture and are honored to be meeting so many people here who have connected with previous Goshen SST units.

We delight in experiencing new cultures, to be able to share that with our SST students is very exciting. We look forward to walking alongside them during these new and wonderful learning experiences in Tanzania. And we are happy to share with you some of our experiences along the way.
