Welcome!

Energy and Environment is a Natural World (science) class in the Goshen College "Core", with a research & writing emphasis. We'll spend a lot of time thinking about the global and local climate crisis and how science can help with understanding that, and prioritizing responses.

Science, like many other cultural activities of our species, starts from a place of wonder, awe, and curiousity about where we find ourselves on this planet, in the one miraculous life we're aware of.

We'll start by writing

...about awe / mystery / wonder / surprise.

Right now, at the beginning of class, I'd like you to spend 8 minutes writing. Writing about an experience you had, in a particular time and place in which you experienced one of these feelings.

It does not need to be science related!

Think briefly about what you want to write about...

Then start writing, and...

Keep writing!. Do not erase. Do not correct. Do not pause until the perfect phrase comes--just write down the first phrase that comes. If you can't think of anything to write, write "I don't know what to write" over and over, until that gets so boring that you write something else! Just get physically moving with the writing process!
