Spanish classes and market trip

Monday-Tuesday, May 7-8.

After getting to know their host families over the weekend, on Monday the students started their routines for the rest of the “study” portion of SST in Lima.  Most days are spent at the Good Shepherd Church, where the students’ days begin with 3 hours of Spanish classes.  Lunches are usually at the church, and the afternoons typically have a lecture, but sometimes a short excursion elsewhere, as we did on Monday.  To practice using Spanish to navigate new situations we took them to a local market where the students needed to buy a list of ingredients their parents had given them for preparing a supper.  Although it was somewhat stressful to ask the vendors questions and strain to understand the responses, they all did just fine.
