After a day of touring Lima’s historic downtown, students were finally able to meet their host families!

Living with host families in Lima is a central-aspect of SST, providing culture and language immersion. Students are hosted in homes across the city and will commute to class and other events in the Miraflores and San Isidro districts every day. The host families in Lima vary considerably in form, though most of the host families in Peru have experience hosting Goshen College students.  So far our check-ins suggest full weekends with family events – walks, talks, bike rides, and going to church.

Living with host families is one of the most transformative aspects of the program, and “SST-veterans” will keep in touch with host families long after they leave their respective study locations.
