Years of hard work, study, sacrifice and prayer culminated April 29 when members of the Class of 2007 received degrees after hearing inspirational messages from Goshen College President James E. Brenneman and the Rev. Joy Carroll Wallis, one of the first women to be ordained as an Anglican priest in England.
Processing across campus just before 3 p.m. on April 23 to open Goshen College's 108th commencement services, the more than 350 members of the Goshen College community (soon-to-be-graduates and current and retired faculty) marched with appropriate seriousness.
The end of a four-year journey came for 223 Goshen College graduates, members of the 107th graduating class, who accepted diplomas from Interim President John D. Yordy in the Roman Gingerich Recreation-Fitness Center on April 24.
During the 106th Goshen College commencement weekend April 24-25, students not only received degrees to honor their hard work, but were also able to celebrate and reflect. Acknowledging shared community, national and international events with significant impact on their lives during their undergraduate years, the chosen theme for their commencement "Creation groaning, yearning for peace, embodying hope."
Philip Hefner, professor emeritus of systematic theology at the Lutheran School of Theology in Chicago, called on Goshen College's 233 graduates to change the world around them as they go out from college during the school's 105th commencement on May 25 in the Roman Gingerich Recreation-Fitness Center.
During this year's commencement address, a leading science and religion theologian and writer will inspire and encourage Goshen College graduates for their post-college futures.
