Merry Lea Environmental Learning Center of Goshen College hosted the Michiana Regional Seed Swap January 19 at Goshen High School, featuring eleven vendors, more than a hundred guests and thousands of locally adapted seeds.
About once a month, 24 students from the Goshen College Laboratory Kindergarten class — a partnership between the college’s education department and Goshen Community Schools — spend the day climbing trees, building shelters and making mud pies in Witmer Woods, through Merry Lea’s Kinderforest program, the first of its kind in Goshen.
The Goshen College Dean’s Office has announced the appointment of Dr. Beth Martin Birky, professor of English, as the next associate dean and Dr. Jan Bender Shetler, professor of history, as the next director of international education.
Gerhard Johan Reimer, professor emeritus of German, died Jan. 1, 2019. He was 90 years old. Reimer taught German and occasionally Spanish at Goshen College from 1966-1994, and led eleven study abroad groups for the college’s Study-Service Term (SST) and Brethren Colleges Abroad (BCA) in Costa Rica and Germany.
Goshen College recently recognized 211 undergraduate students for excellence in academics on the 2018-19 fall semester Dean’s List, along with 51 students in adult degree completion programs for the summer 2018 term.
Katherine “Kay” Yutzy associate professor emerita of nursing at Goshen College, died Sunday, Dec. 23, 2018, at the age of 91. She taught nursing at Goshen College in 1970, 1973-75 and from 1977 until her retirement in 1993.
