Goshen College announced today that educator, biblical theologian and church leader Dr. James Brenneman is the candidate of choice to be the 16th president of the 111-year-old institution committed "to educating servant leaders for the church and the world."
Awarded by the Goshen College Alumni Board, the 2005 Culture for Service Award will be presented to 1955 graduate Hans J. Hillerbrand, published scholar and religion professor at Duke University in Durham, N.C., and 1968 graduate Ramzi Farran and 1969 graduate Carol Farran, a high school chemistry teacher and nurse researcher, respectively, from Oak Park, Ill. Justin Rothshank, a Goshen native and 2000 graduate who now lives and works in Pittsburgh, Pa., will be the first recipient of the Decade of Servant Leadership Award.
When Goshen College's Class of 2009 arrived on campus for Orientation Weekend, Aug. 20-21, there were 14 National Merit Finalists among the group-- twice as many as had ever been in a Goshen College first-year class previously. In addition, among members of the class are a student who showed cows at a state fair, one who turned down a full scholarship to play rugby abroad, and two students who ride unicycles.
Goshen College is pleased to announce and welcome new faculty members for the 2005-06 academic year.
In the annually anticipated college ranking release, the 2006 U.S.News & World Report "America's Best Colleges," Goshen College again placed high in the third tier of the category of Best Liberal Arts Colleges for the fifth straight year. Goshen was again recognized for its study abroad program and for being a "least debt" college, among other accolades.
Goshen College has received a letter of formal notification of continued accreditation by The Higher Learning Commission and a member of the North Central Association (NCA). The next comprehensive evaluation is scheduled for 2015.
The generosity of churches, alumni and friends to Goshen College continued to grow during the 2004-05 fiscal year, which ended June 30.
From acclaimed musical theater favorites sung by Colm Wilkinson of "Phantom of the Opera" and "Les Misérables" to the soul-stirring gospel of the Grammy-winning Blind Boys of Alabama to a top-notch conductor-less string orchestra, the 2005-2006 Goshen College Performing Arts Series will again feature performances from diverse musicians and musical styles for Michiana audiences, with ticket sales beginning July 15.
Goshen College recently recognized 163 students for excellence in academics, on the 2004-05 spring semester Dean's List.
As Merry Lea Environmental Learning Center celebrated the launching of phase one of its "green" collegiate facility on May 4, friends, board members, local officials and representatives from Goshen College joined in ceremonies not to break ground, but to better care for it.
