Goshen College recognizes five alumni for outstanding commitment to core values

GENEX Services, LLC, has awarded Goshen College $20,000 for scholarships in the nursing program.
Ethan Setiawan first picked up a mandolin in 2010, when he was 13 years old. Last Friday, at the age of 17, he was the youngest person ever to be named national mandolin champion at the Walnut Valley Bluegrass Festival in Winfield, Kansas.
Goshen College will be participating in the statewide College GO! Week, sponsored by Learn More Indiana. For the entire week, Goshen College will waive application fees.
As Goshen College’s carbon footprint continues to shrink, its reputation as a leader in sustainable colleges is growing. GC was recently named to Sierra Magazine’s eighth annual list of “Cool Schools,” a ranking of America’s greenest colleges.
This summer, two students created a Peruvian cookbook, “Los Sabores del Peru,” to sell for charity.
The winning plays in the 2014 Goshen College Peace Play Contest – the only contest devoted solely to plays about peace and peace-related topics in the United States – will take center stage during the college’s Homecoming Weekend on Oct. 3 at 8 p.m., Oct. 4 at 4 p.m. and Oct. 5 at 2 p.m. (ASL interpreted) in the college’s Umble Center. The plays will be directed by and performed by Goshen College students.
FiveCore Media and the Goshen College Communication Department received a national bronze Telly Award for “Breaking Down Barriers: Journeys of the Apostle Paul,” a documentary filmed and produced by Goshen College students and faculty.
Goshen College welcomes new employees for the 2014-15 school year, some of whom were hired and began their duties earlier in the year.
For the second time in three years, a Goshen College student took first place in the bi-national intercollegiate C. Henry Smith Oratorical Contest sponsored by Mennonite Central Committee (MCC) U.S. Abby Deaton, a senior communication major from Indianapolis, won with her speech, “The Welcome Table: Discussing Goshen College’s Hiring Policy.”
