Rafael Falcón, professor emeritus of Spanish at Goshen College, and Tom Lehman, a 1969 Goshen College graduate, released a book last month titled “Mennonite Memories of Puerto Rico” (CreateSpace Independent Publishing Platform, Oct. 2014), detailing the experience of Mennonites in Puerto Rico.
As churches and individual Christians around the world prepare to celebrate Christ’s birth, Goshen College will again offer an online spiritual resource at www.goshen.edu/devotions to help believers make time and space in their hearts and minds to welcome Advent and celebrate Christmas.
In an effort to help Mennonite youth groups raise money to attend the 2015 Mennonite convention in Kansas City, Goshen College has developed a fundraising opportunity through sales of organic, direct-trade coffee.
Janeth Vela knows what it takes to realize a dream. Vela, a Goshen College sophomore nursing major from Goshen, was among a group of first-generation students from Indiana’s independent colleges and universities to be celebrated at the 25th annual “Realizing the Dream” banquet on Nov. 1 in Indianapolis.
Goshen College sent 13 vocalists to compete at the annual National Association of Teachers of Singing (NATS) competition at Indiana Wesleyan University on Nov. 1, 2014. More than 300 singers competed at the event.
With the goal of uniting in harmony to bring peace to a troubled world, Goshen College’s Hymn Club will bring together students and community members to sing continuously through every verse of all 658 songs in “Hymnal: A Worship Book.”
During fall break, a group of Goshen College students journeyed to New Orleans to assist Mennonite Disaster Service (MDS) and College Mennonite Church with construction work on a house.
Goshen College radio students won first place in two categories and were named finalists in three other in the College Broadcasters, Inc. (CBI) National Student Radio Production Awards last weekend in Seattle. In addition, 91.1 FM The Globe (WGCS) was also named a Spectrum Award finalist by the Indiana Broadcasters Association (IBA) for Station of the Year and Best Promotional Campaign last week.
John Mishler, professor of art, and Sunday Mahaja, a senior art major from Lagos, Nigeria, each received two awards for their art at the 36th Elkhart Juried Regional Art Exhibition on Friday, Oct. 10. The exhibition will run through Dec. 7, 2014 at the Midwest Museum of American Art.
