Gillian Welch and Robert Rawlings

Gillian Welch will be bringing over 20 years of experience, six Grammy Award nominations and one Album of the Year award to the Goshen College Music Center’s Sauder Concert Hall on Tuesday, Oct. 9, 2018 at 8 p.m. Welch is joined on stage by partner Dave Rawlings.

After moving to Nashville in the early 1990s, Welch was launched into the public consciousness when Emmylou Harris recorded a cover of Welch’s “Orphan Girl.”

Welch and Rawlings, who first met at Berklee College of Music, have released music as Gillian Welch, David Rawlings and Dave Rawlings Machine and have recorded eight albums together – the most recent, Poor David’s Almanack by David Rawlings, was released in 2017.

The song “Cumberland Gap” from this album was nominated for the Best American Roots Song Grammy in 2018. Other nominations include Best Folk Album for Welch’s albums Revival, Time (The Revelator), and The Harrow & The Harvest. Welch also appeared on the 2002 Album of the Year Grammy Award winning soundtrack for the movie O Brother, Where Art Thou.

In recognition of their remarkable careers, Welch and Rawlings were also honored with the Americana Lifetime Achievement Award for Songwriting in 2015 and the Berklee American Masters Award in 2016.
