Four students earn honors at state singing competition

Goshen College sent five vocalists to compete at the annual National Association of Teachers of Singing (NATS) competition, held at Indiana University — Purdue University Ft. Wayne (IPFW).

Four GC students placed in their divisions; Lukas Thompson, a music major from Goshen, placed first among second-year college men; Jacob Zehr, a music major from Carthage, New York, placed second among third-year college men; Galed Krisjayanta, a music majorf from Surakarta, Indonesia, placed second among fourth-year college men; and Ben Meyer Reimer, a theater major from Goshen, placed third among second-year college men.

Each student competed in divisions separated according to age and year, with various subgroups within each division. Staff accompanist Christine Seitz accompanied the students. Associate Professor of Music Scott Hochstetler and Adjunct Voice Instructor Rebecca Dengler Kaufman served as judges for the competition, along with other voice teachers.

The NATS competition is an annual event that draws students from colleges and universities across the state, including Anderson University, DePauw University, Ball State University, Indiana University and others.
