Jessica Williams and Jim Strouse are teaming up once again.
Beachside announced Monday that the Daily Show breakout will star in the writer-director’s new film, in a role specifically developed for her. The two first worked together on Strouse’ 2015 film People Places Things.
Chris O’Dowd will co-star in the project, alongside Lakeith Stanfield (Straight Outta Compton, Atlanta) and Noël Wells (Master of None).
Williams will play Jessica, an aspiring playwright who is recovering from a recent breakup and meets the newly divorced Boone (O’Dowd). The two figure out a way to make it through the tough times — and, in the meantime, realize they like each other. Stanfield will play Jessica’s ex-beau and Wells will play her best friend.
Currently shooting in New York City, the film is being produced by Michael B. Clark and Alex Turtletaub of Beachside, which is also financing the picture. Williams is an executive producer. ICM Partners is handling domestic sales.
Writer-director Strouse’s previous projects also include Grace is Gone starring John Cusack, and The Winning Season starring Sam Rockwell and Emma Roberts. Additional writing credits include John Krasinski’s The Hollars and Steve Buscemi’s Lonesome Jim. He is represented by ICM Partners and Thruline Entertainment.
Williams, also widely known for her podcast 2 Dope Queens, is represented by UTA and Mosaic. O’Dowd is represented by WME and Three Arts Entertainment. Stanfield is represented by CAA and Stark Management. Wells is represented by ICM Partners and Kirsten Ames Management.
