Several first-year Goshen College students helped embody 'servant leadership' Wednesday through 'Service Day' at Goshen College.

'Servant leadership' is one of Goshen College's five core values.

Nearly 180 students went out to lend a hand at nine different non-profit agencies around Goshen and Elkhart.

One group volunteered at 'Soup of Success,' which is a community center in Elkhart that helps empower women and get them back on their feet.

Students were packing soup, cleaning and tending to the garden.

"We get a sense of how people really are, and it kinda brings us closer," said Darienne Maust of Goshen College. "I think it makes us more happy, I guess being here together."

Other groups helped the Boys & Girls Club and Habitat for Humanity.
