Atlanta Falcons' Dan Quinn praises coaching intern Katie Sowers

FLOWERY BRANCH, Ga. -- Atlanta Falcons coach Dan Quinn offered praise for coaching intern Katie Sowers as she continues to assist with the wide receivers throughout training camp.

Sowers, who is following in the footsteps of pioneer Jen Welter with the Arizona Cardinals last year, is the general manager of Women's Football Alliance's Kansas City Titans. Sowers plays and coaches for the Titans.

"Katie actually helped last year some on the personnel side," Quinn said of Sowers. "Really bright. Really smart. I know she's got a big football background for her. So if there's a chance for her to get better and improve, it was something we want. So we've been really pleased with what we've seen from her so far."

Sowers also is the senior recreation director and athletics director for the Kansas City Department of Parks and Recreation. She received her bachelor's from Goshen College in Indiana, where she played basketball, soccer, and ran track. Sowers received her master's from Central Missouri State University.

Sowers' Kansas City-ties to Falcons assistant general manager Scott Pioli led her to this opportunity. She'll be with the Falcons throughout camp as part of the Bill Walsh Minority Coaching Fellowship.
