‘A Festival of Carols’ to air on regional public television stations

Michiana residents will have more opportunities to enjoy Goshen College’s “A Festival of Carols,” the annual musical celebration of the holiday season, on several local and regional public television stations this Christmas.

WIPB-TV in Muncie, Indiana (channel 49.1), will air the 2014 performance on Tuesday, Dec. 15 at 5:30 p.m.

Lakeshore PBS in Merrillville, Indiana (channel 56.1), will air the performance on Wednesday, Dec. 23, at 6:30 p.m. EST/ 5:30 p.m. CST

WNIT in South Bend will broadcast the performance on Thursday, Dec. 24 at 8 p.m. (channel 34.1) and Friday, Dec. 25 at 10 a.m. (channel 34.2)

“A Festival of Carols” can also be heard on 88.1 FM WVPE, the public radio station out of Elkhart, Indiana, which will broadcast the performance on Thursday, Dec. 24, at 9 p.m. It can also be heard on their website, wvpe.org.

The 2014 “A Festival of Carols” performance was filmed and produced by students working for FiveCore Media, Goshen College’s video production company.

“A Festival of Carols” is patterned on a traditional English worship service, and features Christmas carols, spirituals, scripture readings and works by David Willcocks, Jacob Handl, Benjamin Britten, Robert Shaw and more. Performers include the Goshen College Chamber Choir, Men’s Chorus, Women’s World Music Choir, Goshen College Symphony Orchestra and Shout For Joy Children’s Choir. The audience also joins the choirs to sing familiar carols during the performance.

The 2014 “A Festival of Carols” was directed by Dr. Debra Detwiler Brubaker (Women’s World Music Choir), Dr. Scott Hochstetler (Chamber Choir, Men’s Chorus), Dr. Christopher Fashun (Goshen College Symphony Orchestra) and Sandy Hill (Shout for Joy Children’s Choir).
