Members of Fort Wayne Philharmonic to perform at Goshen College

Principal members of the Fort Wayne Philharmonic will bring their talents together for a chamber concert on Sunday, Jan. 26 at 4 p.m. in the Goshen College Music Center’s Rieth Recital Hall. The ensemble, named Freimann, will present chamber works for solo winds, strings and piano in unusual combinations as part of the 2013-2014 Rieth Chamber Series.

The ensemble is comprised of some of the most prominent members of the Fort Wayne Philharmonic: David Ling, violinist and concertmaster; Olga Yurkova, principal second violinist; Derek Reeves, principal violist; Melita Hunsinger, principal cellist; Adrian Mann, principal bassist; Alexander Kelpach, principal pianist; Campbell MacDonald, principal clarinetist; and Orion Rapp, principal oboist.

Freimann’s program will include performances of Benjamin Britten’s Phantasy Quartet for Oboe, Violin, Viola and Cello, Op. 2; Mozart’s “Kegelstatt” Trio for Clarinet, Viola and Piano, K. 498; and Antonín Dvorák’s String Quintet in G Major, Op. 77.

Pre-concert music will be provided by the Youth Honors Symphony Orchestra (YHSO) Brass Ensemble, comprised of members of the YHSO. The ensemble’s short program will include music by Jean Sibelius.

This concert is the third in Goshen College’s new Rieth Chamber Series, committed to bringing high quality chamber and organ music to the Music Center’s performance halls, and is made possible in part by donations of this inaugural year’s season subscribers.
