4:30 p.m. Meet at the Farmstead for a hike focusing on the Kesling Wetland, the Woody Perennial Polyculture and the Merry Lea Sustainable Farm. 6 p.m. Dinner 7 p.m. Program: Meet John and Ruth Mischler, Merry Lea’s newest faculty members. This engaging couple shares the director of agroecology position. Ruth has expertise in cropping systems; John is a biochemist who specializes in nutrient cycling. They’re both interested in helping farmers get the most out of their fertilizer while protecting water sources. Read more about John and Ruth. Free to donors; guests pay $15 per person.

Merry Lea Environmental Learning Center of Goshen College is offering a week-long conservation "school" June 12-16, 2017 for upcoming high school juniors and seniors interested in the conservation of natural resources in northern Indiana. The week will feature a variety of workshops, activities, and learning experiences. Cost is $25.00 per student that covers lodging and meals (scholarships available). Application and teacher letter of recommendation required by May 1st.

This free Teacher Workshop is open to any educator interested in learning more about amphibians. We will explore species local to northern Indiana and discover what makes them important indicators of environmental quality. This workshop is held over the course of three evenings: March 27, 28, & 29 from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm (participants are required to attend all three sessions). Participants will receive up to 6 PGP points, curriculum outline, easy identification cards, and a frog classroom activities packet.

The Indiana Children and Nature Network (ICAN) is encouraging organizations to offer activities around the state June 10-18 that will help foster the connection of children, families, and communities with the natural world. On June 14th, Merry Lea will be offering a variety of facilitated and self-guided activities geared towards children and families. Possible activities to choose from may include guided and self-guided hikes, dipping for macroinvertebrates and amphibians in a vernal pond, making nature crafts, and ending the day with a “bring your own roastables” campfire supper.

You and your family don't want to miss this opportunity to spend the morning exploring Merry Lea! On Tuesday, April 4th bring the family and spend the morning dipping for macroinvertebrates and amphibians in our vernal ponds. Learn why these creatures are important and how to identify different species. Please wear clothes and shoes that you don't mind getting muddy and/or wet. Registration is required by Monday, April 3rd. Cost: $5/adult and $2/child. Feel free to bring a sack lunch and enjoy a picnic after the program.

Bring the whole family to Merry Lea for a morning of fun! You'll have the opportunity to learn the calls of several local frog species such as spring peepers, chorus frogs, bullfrogs, tree frogs, green frogs, leopard frogs, and the American toad. Then we'll head out into our wetlands to find frogs and see them up close! Feel free to bring a sack lunch and enjoy a picnic with your family after the program. Please wear weather appropriate clothing and waterproof boots! Registration is required by Monday, March 27th. Cost: $5/adults and $2/children. All ages welcome.

This two-day event is fun for the whole family! You'll have the opportunity to camp overnight at Merry Lea, canoe, dip for macroinvertebrates in a wetland, take a guided hike, create nature art, and much more! Bring the whole family to enjoy these activities for one or both days. Registration is required by Friday, May 5th.
