Merry Lea’s Dr. Dave Ostergren is a co-author of a paper on climate change which recently turned up on a NASA webpage.

The article is entitled, “Promoting climate justice in high-income countries: lessons from African American communities on the Chesapeake Bay,” and appeared in a July 2017 issue of the journal, Climatic Change. It examines opportunities for increasing justice for communities likely to suffer most from climate change.

Dave and his co-author identified ways in which the perceptions of NGOs and government authorities differed from African-American community members in vulnerable areas. They also suggested an approach to adaptation planning that includes increased attention to local knowledge and voices from the communities likely to be affected.

Dave is pleased that NASA is helping to make the information accessible to the public.
