Pave the Way: Summer Academic Leadership Training (SALT)

We’re in this together. The Center for Intercultural and International Education (CIIE), the Diverse Student Support and other departments at Goshen College co-facilitate the Summer Academic Leadership Training (SALT), which assists African American, Latino American, Native American and Asian American (ALANA) students with the transition to college.

“For ye are the salt of the earth” (Matthew 5:13)

Administrators, faculty, staff and students participate, with students earning three credit hours for the three-week program that:

Students interested in participating in SALT should contact the Goshen College Admission Office for an application.

Response to 2009 SALT

“I think the program is characteristic of how CITL is fitting

into the campus because yeah, this was required of the CITL students, but CITL students only made up nine of the 21. And it’s my understanding that the vision behind CITL is that yes we are focusing on Latino students and our Latino student cohort, but it’s also much broader than that. We’re focusing on campus-wide transformation and providing access for a broader variety of students. And that’s really what this, the SALT program, did.”

—Suzanne Ehst, SALT Academic Director 2009 & 2010
