Applying for the President's Leadership Award or Dream Award
Applying for the Presidentโs Leadership Award or the Dream Award involves an online application, essay and in-person interview.
Achievement scholarships are awarded to first-year domestic students. You must complete an application for admission by Dec. 1 to Goshen College, along with having your high school transcript and test scores (optional this year) sent to the Admissions Office, in order to confirm eligibility for achievement scholarships.
Before you get started
There are three important but different parts to this form: The application portion, an essay portion and an on-campus interview. The application and essay portions must be completed by Jan. 15.
- The application portion consists of basic contact information like your name, address, phone number, etc.
- The essay portion consists of four questions (see below). Your response for each question must be limited to 100 words.
- The on-campus interview will take place during Celebrate Scholars Day on January 27, 2024.
Upon successful completion of this form, a confirmation email will be sent to the email address you specify in step #2. If you do not receive such an email please check your spam folder or contact the Admissions Office at admissions@goshen.edu or 574.535.1535.
Essay questions
Q1: Community Service
Explain what you have done to make your community a better place to live. Discuss the impact of one or two specific projects.
Q2: Goals/Task Commitment
Articulate one goal you have established for yourself. Tell us your efforts in accomplishing this goal. Be specific about the steps you took to achieve this goal.
Q3: Leadership/Group Contributions
Describe one specific example of your leadership experience in which you have significantly influenced others, helped resolve disputes, or contributed to group efforts over time. Consider responsibilities to initiatives taken in or out of school.
Q4: Dealing With Adversity
Describe the most significant challenge you have faced and the steps you have taken to address this challenge. Include how you responded and what you learned about yourself.
On-campus Interview
The on-campus interview will be conducted by faculty at Celebrate Scholars Day, January 27, 2024. The interview will last for approximately 15 minutes. While all candidates are expected to attend Celebrate Scholars Day, if you are unable to attend, the interview can be completed through a Zoom interview on either January 30, 2024 from 4 p.m.-9 p.m. (EST) or February 1, 2024 from 4 p.m.-9 p.m. (EST). During the interview, faculty will ask questions based on a certain scenario. The interview scenario and potential questions will be emailed to qualified candidates the first week of January.

Q: Core Values
At Goshen College we intend to create a community of faith and learning built on five core values: Christ-centeredness, passionate learning, servant leadership, compassionate peacemaking and global citizenship. After reading through our core value definitions, you are to pick one of the five core values. Your essay should answer the question, โWhat does this core value mean to me?โ Give one or two specific examples of what that core value means in your life. (350 word maximum)
