Amanda Flickinger is profoundly Deaf, born to a hearing family. She first attended Arkansas School for the Deaf from Pre-K until 2nd grade, and then was mainstreamed in public schools with use of interpreters. Amanda completed her Bachelors in Deaf Education from University of Southern Mississippi and Masters in ASL Education from Gallaudet University in Dec 2009 and July 2016, respectively. Amanda worked at Georgia School for the Deaf in Cave Spring, GA in a variety of positions: full time substitute teacher, Elementary Special Education teacher, and Middle School Mathematics teacher.
After her family moved to northern Indiana, Amanda started working at Goshen College (located in Goshen, IN) in August 2014. As a current Associate Professor, she primarily works closely with the Sign Language Interpreting program, preparing future interpreters for the Deaf. She also works with the Deaf Studies program focusing on the Education concentration, by supporting current ASL teachers seeking to obtain their state certification as well as preparing future ASL teachers. Courses she has taught for post-secondary students include ASL 1-5, Deaf Culture, Deaf History, Fingerspelling & Numbers, Methods of Teaching American Sign Language, Technology for Interpreters, Speciality Areas of Interpreting, and Certification & Ethics, as well as supervising students completing their student teaching in the ASL field.
