Assistant/Associate Professor of Art (tenure track)

Position Summary:

The Goshen College Art department invites applications for a full-time, tenure track Assistant or Associate Professor of Art with a primary focus in the area of graphic design to begin July 2024. The successful applicant will have an enthusiastic commitment to teaching and an active creative practice with a strong interest and experience in web design, typography, UI/UX, and motion graphics. Based on expertise, the candidate will also have the opportunity to teach in studio art areas such as photography, ceramics, and art education, as well as courses for the CORE (general education) program. In addition to teaching, the position includes advising and mentoring an increasingly culturally, racially and religiously diverse student body and supporting departmental co-curriculars.

The art department offers majors and minors in Art and Graphic Design. All members of the department have opportunities to develop courses within their expertise. Goshen College is a teaching college with a 24 credit hour load, and all teaching faculty serve on institution-wide committees and assist with advising, as well as recruiting prospective students.

Application Requirements:

Position Duties:

  • Teach assigned courses in graphic design with appropriate active and engaged learning practices
  • Prepare syllabi for assigned courses in design and other studio art areas in collaboration with department chair and GC Core director
  • Mentor students through advising and recruiting activities
  • Maintain and develop studio spaces, supplies, and equipment associated with courses taught
  • Participate in department, school and college meetings
  • Pursue appropriate professional development opportunities, including scholarly activities such as exhibitions, publication, presentations or lectures
  • Supervise graphic design student internships and student workers in department as needed

Position Qualifications: 

    • Master of Fine Arts in Graphic Design or a terminal degree in a closely related field and significant professional experience
    • Evidence of creative practice or industry experience
    • Maintain an up-to-date proficiency with digital tools and software as they relate to teaching and creative research in design (e.g. Adobe Creative Cloud)
    • Maintain a contemporary understanding of best practices in design (e.g. methodologies, design theories, design ethics, etc.) and design education
    • Develop curriculum
    • Collaborate across disciplines
    • Demonstrate commitment to working with diverse populations
    • Experience teaching at the college/university level
    • Experience teaching diverse college students
    • Ability to teach additional departmental courses depending on the area of expertise
